Gifts In-Kind

"In Kind" donations are items like pet food, dog treats, cat towers, blankets, copier paper and other tangible items that are not cash, check or credit card.

At our non-profit animal shelter, your In Kind Donations are much appreciated. You will receive a Donation Form where you fill in the item(s) that you are donating. You have the option to receive a thank you letter.

The value of In Kind Donations is left to you and your tax preparer, and we encourage you to include the condition of the item (such as "desk, good condition" or "washing machine, new") and for you to keep all your original receipts.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your In Kind Donations are eligible as a TAX DEDUCTION as allowed by law. Check with your CPA or tax attorney for more details.

In Honor / In Memory: A Beautiful Testimony

Your gifts In Honor / In Memory of a special person has a direct impact on the lives of shelter animals in our care and our hard-work to find happy Forever Homes.

• "In Honor" gifts may be made in a recipient's name for any special occasion, including Birthdays, Anniversaries, Holidays, Life Milestone, a Promotion, an Award, or as a special way to say "Thank you.""In Memory" gifts are made as a special way to recognize a person who cherished compassion, community and a love for animals.

Gifts may be made online, in person, by mail or by phone.  Please Call (301) 373-5659 if you need more information.

You can also use our online giving to make a donation. Please note if the donation is made In Honor/In Memory. Include a name and address of the person you would like for us to send an acknowledgement to.

Estate Planning

Please contract us for more information about including shelter pets or a Life-Saving Program in your estate planning.  Be a hero and start a legacy!

Sample bequest language:

"I, (name), of (City, State & Zip), give, devise and bequeath to St. Mary's Animal Welfare League, a Maryland non-profit organization located in Leonardtown, St. Mary's County, Maryland, (written amount or percentage of the rest, residue or remainder of the estate or description of the property) for its unrestricted use and purpose."

If you choose to name St. Mary's Animal Welfare League as a beneficiary of your estate or insurance policy, please let us know so that we can express our appreciation to you.
