Big Mama and Bubba
Big Mama and Bubba, two pot bellied pigs, were turned in to TCAS by their owner. The Snowflake Society contacted Linda Kelley of Calvert County, a pig expert and advocate. Using her contacts, Linda was able to help Snowflake find a good home for these two cuties. They were eventually adopted by a family with young children who owned a small farm. On their first night at their new home, one of the young daughters dashed into the stall with Big Mama and lay down in the straw with her. From then on it was "happily ever after."
Pony
Pony was surrendered to Animal Control after his situation was investigated due to a complaint that he was not being cared for. He had been bought for the owner's grandchildren who quickly lost interest in him. Pony was living his life alone and neglected in a field with no shelter until a kind person reported his plight to the authorities. Tri County Animal Shelter contacted The Snowflake Society to help them find a good home for Pony. After sending the word out to the horse community and getting numerous offers, Pony was placed in his new home. He now lives comfortably and loved as a companion for a retired race horse.
Rocky
Rocky was a baby Nubian goat that was born with contracted tendons. His owner contacted The Snowflake Society because she could not keep him. Animals born with this condition cannot stand to nurse. Rocky's owner had been told to "sell him for the meat." Snowflake contacted a good friend and goat expert and Rocky was transported to Pennsylvania. Sadly, after numerous attempts to correct Rocky's condition, the veterinarian recommended humane euthanasia. Not all endings are happy ones but Rocky ended his life surrounded by people who loved him and not at the slaughter house. We like to think Rocky is romping in Animal Heaven with Snowflake.
Rosemary
Rosemary was a feral pig that Animal Control found wandering down a busy road. She was taken to TCAS and The Snowflake Society started to look for a good home for her. Feral pigs are not in demand so it was a challenge. Snowflake officers contacted the Farm Manager at Historic St. Mary's City. The living history exhibits at HSMC include pigs that are similar to the ones raised by the early colonists. Rosemary was a perfect fit and was relocated. She is now living with three other feral pigs and delights school age children with her antics.
Willie
Willie was surrendered to The Snowflake Society by his owner when she could no longer care for him. Although not physically abused, Willie had not seen a veterinarian or farrier for four years. Willie was taken to a foster farm and rehabilitated. He found a home with a wonderful young woman who loves him dearly.
