SMAWL Ways to Help the AnimalsM-M-Monster by Josh Bayer 8-year-old Josh Bayer presents a $1,200 check to Barb Whipkey, President of SMAWL, during the Solomons Island Family Fun day. The $1,200 represents the proceeds from sales of his M-M-Monster book, which he wrote and illustrated to benefit animal rescue. M-M-Monster continues to be available at Pepper's Pet Pantry is Solomons Island, Joson's Fine Jewerly in La Plata, All Kinds Veterinary Hospital in Callaway, Forrest Hall Farm in Mechanicsville, the Charles County Humane Society in Waldorf, and through Josh's website (www.bayerhouse.com/monsterjoshbook). It's that easy! Now when you shop, the animals will benefit from your purchases. Recycle Your Ink Cartridges Through SMAWL This SMAWL way to help the animals also helps the Earth. All you need to do is bring your used ink and toner cartridges to any SMAWL adoption event at Petco. We will collect the recyclables and send them off to a company who gives us donation dollars for every cartridge we send. Please consider collecting the used ink and toner cartridges at your work site. Put out a collection box and let people know that your collective effort will help a lot of homeless animals. Remember our adoption events are held at the Petco in California on the first and third Saturday of every month, year round, from 10:00-2:00. www.iGive.com SMAWL is registered on iGive.com. It's an easy way to help the animals. Pounce Perks Program SMAWL has signed on for the Pounce Perks program. This program will directly benefit our special adult cats living at our SMAWL Adoption and Rescue Center. These cats are getting the special attention they need to learn to trust humans again. And it's no coincidence that they are learning new behaviors by being rewarded with, yes, cat treats! On every can* or inside every bag of Pounce treats, you will find a code. All you need to do is send your code numbers to smawl@yahoo.com. It's that easy. Please put on the subject line: "Pounce Perks." From there, our volunteers will know to forward the codes to Jen and Judy Hunt who are helming this fundraising effort. Your codes will help SMAWL because they earn points. With enough points, SMAWL will receive $15 gift cards for PetMeds.com. For our Adoption and Rescue Center cats who need to stay healthy, that translates back into a lot of free Frontline treatments, and that's good news. * The code is found under the label of the can. Be careful. You have to tear off the label first. This program is valid only through October -- so tell Fluffy to start eating more Pounce! Fresh Step PAW POINTS Another great way to help is by saving your Fresh Step PAW POINTS that are located on each bag or box of Fresh Step cat litter. Through this program our cats and kittens can get free medicine from 1-800petmeds. They can also get well-needed free litter and toys. We just ask that you save your points and send them to us through the mail or through e-mail to furrballzone@yahoo.com, making sure that you write PAW POINTS in the subject line. Our cats are looking forward to your continuing support. Thank You. ARC Cat Shelter We have a shelter for cats in Hollywood. These are typically cats that need to be re-socialized and learn to trust humans again. We call this shelter the ****ARC** and have been very successful with helping these cats adjust to humans and finding them new homes. It is a very special part of our rescue efforts. Right now the ARC is in serious need of the following supplies:
Right now we have 31 cats in this shelter, so you can imagine the amount of food and litter that is used. If you are able to donate some of these items, please bring them to the adoption event this weekend at PETCO from 10AM to 2PM. Remember your donations are tax deductible.
